When football ended, I learned what it feels like when the thing that defined you is suddenly gone.
I rebuilt as a high school English teacher, then as a founder. I started East Cooper Heating and Air, grew it to 30+ people, and sold it. I built companies in real estate management and worked in M&A in New York City.
By most measures it was working. Then a mentor told me to make the leap from success to significance. So I moved my work toward schools and people, and spent six years helping California districts plan, fund, and build the places kids learn.
Every chapter taught me the same thing: handoffs are where people and organizations either lose their identity or build something better.
